Our History
Founded in 1982, Quintessence Fragrances has flourished from a small independent workforce into a thriving global team that drives passion, innovation and collaboration into every product. We started by producing now-classic scents for The Body Shop, before joining forces with the Goldfield Fragrances Group to take our operations across the world.
Today, we work closely with our customers to create scents their customers come back to time and time again. Forward-thinking, future-proof fragrances that are crafted with care and expertise. Below, you can see how our company has evolved to become the hub of innovation it is today – still with the hand-in-hand customer care that makes each project feel so special.
Quintessence Fragrances through the years
● 1970s
Jeffrey Brown Sr. created iconic fragrances for newly established The Body Shop.
1982 ↓
Quintessence Fragrances was established by Jeffrey. As the only fragrance supplier to The Body Shop, we started shipping fragrances all over the world.
1988 ↓
The company grew and expanded its production, increasing exports and working with new customers.
2003 ↓
Following Jeffrey’s passing, we became part of the India-based Goldfield Fragrances Group under Bharatrao V Kamte.
2008 ↓
Fourth generation perfumer and ISIPCA faculty member François Robert became our Director of Perfumery.
2011 ↓
Continuing our global endeavours, we opened an office in Poland.
2018 ↓
Our new state of the art factory and creative centre opened in Newhaven, UK.
2019 →
We invested in an improved creative centre in Mumbai and upgraded our factory in Chennai, India.
2019 ↓
We opened a new manufacturing site in Suzhou, China, enabling us to service a wider range of global customers more efficiently.
2019 ↓
We launched a creative centre in New Jersey, USA, serving North America with fragrance expertise.
2021 ↓
Our team signed the IFRA Sustainability Charter, striving for a kinder future of fragrance.
2021 ↓
We cut the ribbon on a new creative centre in Shanghai, China.
2021 ↓
We opened the doors to our specialty fragrance atelier, House of Quintessence, in Paris.
2022 ↓
We were delighted to celebrate 40 years of Quintessence Fragrances. Here’s to many more decades of crafting scents that delight for a lifetime.
2023 ●
This year we proudly expanded our global presence by opening a new office in New Jersey, USA.
